So chic…so… French?

France was and is a well know place to start a fashion trend. In the past was something very cool to be dressed “like in Paris” or “like French women do”. And this mark is still standing.

One of the things I adore from French “image” is the beret. If I think about a French outfit is the fist thing it comes in my mind.

Well, the beret has a very long history. Believe it or not, the French beret is not French at all. It seems that the ancient Greeks and Romans were the first to wear this head cover.

Later it was present in Europe in middle Ages, Renaissance …Modern age. Testimonies are the gravures and paintings from every era.

In France, the “responsible” for this was the Basque people from France (south) and Spain (north). Form a small affair the beret production becomes an industry. The first factory was the Beatex-Laulhere in 1840 and it still exist in present times (http://www.laulhere-france.com).

The beret becomes a symbol of French people, of middle class, and, quickly, a fashion trend. Many divas have a least a picture with a beret.

Unfortunately, today it is not so wear from what I saw in Paris even if I cannot imagine walking in this amazing city without a beret and a baguetteJ. For me, the beret is something chic, easy to wear on every season, a piece of clothing that you can have in every color and you can match it with a lot of styles.

So, I love the beret because it is so chic and, why not, so French!
